Proof of the Inner White Girl

I have been living in California for most of my life.  I know there are stereotypes about women from California (thanks a lot Katy Perry), but they all have a small shred of truth to them. That being said, here is my personal list of things I have caught myself or my friends doing. 1. When you budget for the influx of Pumpkin Spice goods. 2. You use Vanilla Spice creamer in your coffee and then dip your Limited Edition Dunkin Doughnuts Vanilla Spice Pop-tarts into it. (Sad to admit, this one is on me.) 3. You panic when you can't find your favorite eyeliner. (We've all had this one, right?) 4. You "can't even" when your Instagram account freezes. 5. You lose your mind over the newest color from your favorite makeup brand and you just have to get it. (Thank you Wet n' Wild.) 6. Fall starts when Starbucks releases Pumpkin Spice. 7. Your day is ruined when Starbucks isn't available. 8. You wish your GPS would just say "Turn right a

Nanny 101

When looking after someone else's child, things can go really well or really bad. I'm lucky to be in the former situation. In my year and a half of doing this, I have learned so much. Here are the top five things I have learned. 1. ALWAYS have a "plan B" in case you need to switch things up quickly on the spot. 2. GPS is a must , for hopefully obvious reasons. 3. Duffel bags are a god send. Toss in what you need, things you may need, and a few things you have no clue about. 4. Have spare phone numbers and all addresses written down . Its good to have a back up.  You will never know when your phone dies and you have to borrow someone's in an emergency situation. (True story) 5. Remember what the word "appropriate" means and how it should be applied in your situation.  This includes but is not limited to: the music in your car, your clothes, and above all - what comes out of your mouth! It's a weird thing, but you may also

Broke-A** College Student

Even after college, being broke seems to be a long lasting side effect.  There seem to be two primary reasons for this. 1. "First Jobs" generally suck.  They pay minimum wages, screw you on hours, and are emotionally taxing.  I don't care if all you're doing is flipping burgers, the stigma of being unmotivated and stupid still hurts.  And the longer you listen to those stigmas, the more likely you are to start believing them.  There are both studies and plenty of old wives tales to back this up. Then to top it all off, all of the "god jobs" generally require "prior experience".  Which means you are stuck at that "first job" until you get some "experience". 2. Trying to live (even with roommates) is too Goddamn expensive! Want to live close to work so you can ride a bike or take the bus to work to be more ecologically minded? Well, do you have 3 times the rent as your income? No? Well tough shit, go look elsewhere. T

"Changes" - Coming Soon to a Life Near You!

Changes: they happen.  And they can suck.  A famous few include puberty (everything is changing), the seasons (unless you are here in California), and the political climate (which I will NOT be getting into).  My point is that they exist and, like it or not, they help make the world go round. I have been on a hiatus from blogging (and most of the things I enjoy) for the last few months because of this driving force - though if change were to ever have a drivers licence it would get that licence revoked so fast for speed infringements alone.  By last few months I mean since January.  So almost 7 months?  Change has recently dictated my daily life.  So here is a quick rundown of what's been going on. 1. The title of this blog has changed to reflect the main change... That could be phrased a lot better... But you get the point.  The trio has met it's end.  It's been a good year and some change (see that pun there?), but the boyfriend and I are moving on in our own way (re

2018, New Year

New Years Resolution: Learn to never feel the need to have a resolution again.  Just be happy with your imperfect self. This is, in my humble opinion, the one thing people always mean to say, but can never bring themselves to do.  It's the main goal, isn't it? Be happy with who you are? Here I am, one month into the new year, and this is only my first blog entry when I thought I should be on my third or fourth.  But you know what? I'm okay with that. I'm okay with that because up until this point in my life, I have had nothing but schedules, and although those can really help you when you're busy, I am tired of them controlling me.  But I shouldn't say that they controlled me. That would be incorrect.  What I should say is that I am tired of letting myself be defined by the schedules I make and force myself to keep.  I should accept the point that I need some flexibility. 2017 marks my first New Years Resolution that I held onto all year long: no thr

Small Things to be Said About Life and Living, as seen by a 22-year-old

To be blunt: life sucks.  It just does, and there is no other way around it.  Now, that being said, you really do need to appreciate the smaller things in life.  It helps the stupid things seem smaller. Embrace your guilty pleasures! I love PSL (Pumpkin Spice Latte) season, my colored pens, and wondering which cardigan to wear. I even post pictures of these things on Instagram! I could care less what people think. Spontaneity is a thing.  You should do it more often.  You never know when it will produce something you didn't know you needed. Gratitude and Love.  They are the things that make life ... well ... life.  Practice them, even if it all sucks. Traffic is the perfect time to listen and sing along to music without caring about who else is listening. Think of the car ride as a concert staring you, and it will always be awesome. Age is superfluous - unless you are doing something adult in nature, in which case it is very important - friends are friends, and good time

Late Night Drives

If you're anything like me, then you keep odd hours and throw care and sleep to the wind.  This would include late night drives to places you have never been and trusting a GPS that has gotten you lost before.  And did I mention you have one of your best friends and the Queen in tow? Let me put the ages into perspective for you: Queen: 33 BF: 25 (soon to be 26) Me: 22 The reason for us heading down to Stockton at 8 pm is not important, it is the conversation that filled the silence on our way that makes it funny. Mixed tapes are a classic way to spend a car ride, and this one was no exception.  The Queen has quite the selection of CD's and playlists; so he likes to pick one at random, put it in, and the rest of us just roll with it.  Well, it was a 90's sort of evening, and of course there was Britney, and then NCYNC and Backstreet Boys. As soon as Bye Bye Bye comes on we all start singing and dancing (what else are long car rides for?) When the song changes, my
